AI Safety at William & Mary
There isn’t an AI safety group at William & Mary yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.
William & Mary has strong undergraduates and a tight community. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why William & Mary.
William & Mary is one of the oldest universities in the country, with academically serious undergraduates and a tight-knit community where a small group of committed people can shape campus culture. That kind of student body, thoughtful and willing to dig into hard questions, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Fellow Virginia schools like UVA already have a group. Someone gets to be first here, and William & Mary is a gap on the map.
What you’d be starting.
A real group
A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.
With support
Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.
And funding
A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.
Could you lead it?
Twenty seconds. A few quick questions so we know where you’re starting from.
