There isn’t an AI safety group at UPenn yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.
UPenn has the research, the students, and the proximity to industry to be one of the strongest AI safety communities in the country. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why UPenn.
Penn Engineering and the GRASP lab put serious machine learning and robotics research on campus, and Wharton feeds a steady stream of students who end up shaping how AI gets deployed. That combination, deep technical strength next to real influence on how these systems reach the world, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Nearby schools like Princeton and Columbia already have groups; UPenn is a gap on the map.
What you’d be starting.
A real group
A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.
With support
Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.
And funding
A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.
