AI Safety at U Minnesota

There isn’t an AI safety group at U Minnesota yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.

The University of Minnesota has tens of thousands of technical students, more than enough to build a serious AI safety community. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, tell us about yourself and your interest in AI safety. Where we can help, we offer free early support with first steps, existing resources, or finding co-organizers.

Why U Minnesota.

The College of Science and Engineering makes Minnesota a serious technical university, with tens of thousands of students studying exactly the fields an AI safety community draws from. A student body that large, in a school with real engineering depth, is exactly where such a community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Regional peers like Wisconsin and UChicago already have groups. Minnesota is a gap on the map, and someone gets to be the first to fill it.

What you’d be starting.

A real group

A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.

Possible early support

We review your answers and consider where we can help with first steps, adapting existing resources, or finding co-organizers. Support is free; availability and format vary.

Outside programs

Pathfinder is one external program university-group organizers can explore. Outside programs make their own admission and funding decisions.
