AI Safety at UC Davis

There isn’t an AI safety group at UC Davis yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.

UC Davis has one of the largest student bodies in the UC system, tens of thousands of technical students who could build a serious AI safety community. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, tell us about yourself and your interest in AI safety. Where we can help, we offer free early support with first steps, existing resources, or finding co-organizers.

I’m interested Free support, subject to fit and availability

Why UC Davis.

The College of Engineering has grown fast, and UC Davis sits close enough to the Bay Area that its students are already surrounded by people building frontier AI. That combination, a large technical student body near the industry actually shipping these systems, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Nearby schools like Berkeley and Stanford already have groups; UC Davis is a gap on the map.

What you’d be starting.

A real group

A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.

Possible early support

We review your answers and consider where we can help with first steps, adapting existing resources, or finding co-organizers. Support is free; availability and format vary.

Outside programs

Pathfinder is one external program university-group organizers can explore. Outside programs make their own admission and funding decisions.

Could you lead it?

Start with your email, then complete the advising application. We’ll review your answers to understand how we may be able to help.
