AI Safety at NYU

There isn’t an AI safety group at NYU yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.

NYU has the research, the students, and the proximity to industry to be one of the strongest AI safety communities in the country. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why NYU.

The Courant Institute and NYU’s Center for Data Science put serious machine learning research on campus, and Manhattan is thick with people building and deploying frontier AI. That combination, a technical student body next to the industry actually shipping these systems, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Nearby schools like Columbia and Princeton already have groups; NYU is a gap on the map.

What you’d be starting.

A real group

A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.

With support

Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.

And funding

A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.

Could you lead it?

Twenty seconds. A few quick questions so we know where you’re starting from.
