AI Safety at NC State

There isn’t an AI safety group at NC State yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.

NC State has the research, the students, and the proximity to industry to be one of the strongest AI safety communities in the country. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why NC State.

NC State’s College of Engineering and its central position in Research Triangle Park put serious technical talent right next to the companies building frontier AI. That combination, a large engineering student body inside an industry corridor, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Georgia Tech, the closest comparable engineering school, already has a group, and the Triangle itself, home to three major research universities, has none. NC State is a gap on the map.

What you’d be starting.

A real group

A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.

With support

Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.

And funding

A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.

Could you lead it?

Twenty seconds. A few quick questions so we know where you’re starting from.
