Johns Hopkins has the research, the students, and the proximity to industry to be one of the strongest AI safety communities in the country. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why Johns Hopkins.
The Whiting School of Engineering and the Applied Physics Laboratory put serious machine learning and systems research on campus, and Baltimore sits right next to Washington, where AI policy actually gets made. That combination, a technical student body next to the people who decide how these systems get governed, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Nearby schools like Georgetown and Maryland already have groups; Johns Hopkins is a gap on the map.
What you’d be starting.
A real group
A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.
With support
Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.
And funding
A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.
