Duke has the research, the students, and the proximity to industry to be one of the strongest AI safety communities in the country. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why Duke.
Duke’s computer science department and its location minutes from Research Triangle Park put serious machine learning talent and infrastructure on campus. That combination, a technical student body next to a corridor of companies and labs actually building these systems, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. UVA, a few hours north, already has a group, and the Triangle itself, home to three major research universities, has none. Duke is a gap on the map.
What you’d be starting.
A real group
A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.
With support
Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.
And funding
A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.
