There isn’t an AI safety group at BYU yet. We’re looking for the people to lead one.
BYU has a large, technically strong student body and sits in the middle of Utah’s Silicon Slopes tech scene. It just needs a founding team. If that might be you, we help with mentorship, curriculum, and a path to funding. All free.

Why BYU.
BYU has one of the largest student bodies in the country and a well-regarded computer science and engineering program, sitting right in Provo at the heart of Utah’s Silicon Slopes tech corridor. That combination, a big technical student body next to a booming software industry, is exactly where an AI safety and alignment community belongs. Right now there isn’t one. Peer schools with large technical student bodies like Purdue and the University of Washington already have groups. Someone gets to be first here, and BYU is a gap on the map.
What you’d be starting.
A real group
A reading group working through alignment research, a cohort running an AI safety fundamentals course, or a technical team building projects. You decide the shape.
With support
Mentorship from organizers who have run these groups, a ready-made curriculum, and help finding co-founders and building a site.
And funding
A path to funding through the Pathfinder fellowship, for speakers, food, compute, and the group’s activities. Free to you, always.
